Happy Valley Fall

CA Danielle Scalise of Curry Hall writes:

"September is just about over and we have now welcomed autumn. This is one of my favorite seasons. It starts with the bright colorful leaves, to the crisp red apples, the sweet caramel and yummy apple cider. We have pumpkins, candy corn, kettle corn, and many fall fests. The season is so pretty and filled with delight. We have our wonderful season of fall for great football and Halloween fun! The days start to grown chilly, but this is the weather that makes me happy!"

Are you Ready for Some Football?

There are a lot of great things happening at Penn State all of the time but in the Fall there is one clear king on campus...football. During seven Saturdays this semester, 107,000 people will crowd into Beaver Stadium to cheer on the Nittany Lions. They say that State College becomes the third largest city in Pennsylvania every home football weekend. Just try to walk around campus or get a ice cream cone at the Creamery and it is evident that the population has doubled, maybe even tripled.

CA Danielle Scalise (Curry Hall) wrote this post after attending a recent football game:

"It's football season! This is my first season to attend games at Penn State! Let's just say.... AWESOME! It starts from early in the morning when you see fans lining the streets downtown shopping, eating, walking, and just hanging out! Then on campus you see old and young alike all dressed in blue and white. Tailgating is the best sight to see! Trailer after trailer, car after car, and most importantly die hard fan after die hard fan! Food galore and I'm pretty sure you could find just about ANYTHING! No matter what happens in the game, we always support the good old blue and white! My favorite part is seeing the never ending line for the Creamery! =] At the game, there is nothing like screaming and cheering whether a play is good or bad! We are proud to be Penn State Students. And Penn State we will always be! =]

Here are some Penn State football pictures featurning some photos taken by Danielle and Senior Coordinator Tracy Shadowens.

Campus Beauty

Danielle Scalise is the CA in Curry Hall. She provided the following answer when questioned about her favorite space on campus:

"My favorite thing about our campus is its simple beauty. No matter where I walk, I always find a new place that I love. Whether it is sitting in the grass by Eastview, walking by Old Main, or simply reading outside the library, I always enjoy the surroundings. I love exploring and walking so this is the best campus for me. I love the hustle and bustle during the day. The night brings a peaceful place of wonder. My boyfriend and I always take a walk at night and each time I find a new favorite place. Take advantage of the beauty Penn State is providing. Get out enjoy the sun and lay back and watch the stars at night. =]"

What is a CA?

In Eastview Terrace, each building has a CA (Community Assistant). If you lived on campus before, you might have had an RA. The CAs are like RAs. You would go to your CA for the same reasons you would go to an RA.

Here's some more general information about the CAs in Eastview Terrace:

  • CAs are undergraduate or graduate students who have served as a Resident Assistants (RAs) or have applicable experience. Three CAs are grad students this semester.

  • There are eight CAs in Eastview - one per building except Harris Hall which has two.

  • In an effort to provide the residents with an identifiable resource person, CAs can give
information and assistance, and refer residents to appropriate campus and community resources.

  • Community Assistants are at the core of the Residence Life program.

  • You should talk to your CA if you have questions about campus, the residence halls, or need any type of assistance.

  • CAs plan community builders throughout the semester to allow residents an opportunity to take a break from studying and to give residents a chance to meet and interact with each other.
